The FBI is investigating an NBA referee who allegedly was betting on basketball games – including ones he was officiating during the past two seasons – as part of an organized-crime probe in the Big Apple, The Post has learned. One source close to the probe counted the number of games on which the ref and his wiseguy buddies scored windfalls in the "double digits." NBA Commissioner David Stern is aware of the investigation and has a report about the referee on his desk, another source said. The official, whose name was withheld, allegedly wagered on games during the 2005-06 and 2006-07 NBA seasons.
Does this prove that games can be fixed? All those mysterious calls don’t seem so innocent now do they *cough wade cough*.

According to a law enforcement official, authorities are examining whether the referee made calls to affect the point spread in games on which he or associates had wagered.
The law enforcement official said the bets involved thousands of dollars and were made on games during the 05/06 and 06/07
HA I BET THE NBA FINALS IN 06 was fixed…FRICKIN DWADE WENT TO THE LINE LIKE 15-20 times every damn game…it was horrible

Have you ever bet on a game and though that the point spread was in your favor, but somehow you lost anyway and figured the game must be rigged? Now that the NBA referee that was just busted for rigging games, do you think there are more corrupt referees in other sports?

I believe there is some truth to it. I also believe the only reason Donaghy would say this is because he has his back to the corner, and has no where to go, he wants to throw a couple of swings.
For those who don’t know. Tim Donaghy, the NBA referee being investigated for betting on games he called, says that in some NBA playoff series that the refs are told not to call a flagrant on a star player, or to go overboard and call trivial calls on players, too.

The investigation, which began more than a year ago, is zeroing in on blockbuster allegations that the referee was making calls that affected the point spread to guarantee that he — and the hoods who had their hooks in him — cashed in on large bets.
That is bad dirt, should he be banned from basketball for life and go to prison? or fined and be fired? or all of the above if he is guilty?
